As the Destination Marketing arena becomes increasingly complex, DMOproZ strives to provide an easily accessed Knowledge Bank for DMO pros around the world. From White Papers to cutting edge Research to our recommendations on books to make you think, videos to encourage your creativity and blogs to keep you current.

And, we want this to be a two-way street. When you see a great resource that would be a benefit to the DMO collective, shoot it our way and we'll post it up for your peers.

A Different Kind of ROI

Street-view-with-signWe've had the honor, over the past 18 months or so, to work with community leaders in Bastrop TX to develop a Destination Marketing Organization that could move the needle for a community that had allowed its primary attraction to handle promotion for the community over the past decade. Despite the fits and starts of the process, one thing remained true throughout the relationship...our unabashed appreciation of the people there and the opportunity that awaits.

As we are always looking for ways to quantify the impact of DMOs, unique measurements always capture our attention. And, as we led the freshly minted board of Visit Bastrop through its paces during last month's Strategic Planning Workshop, another way of looking at the impact of Tourism checked in to say "hello."

The owner of the Pecan Street Inn in Bastrop shared that she had just "scored" her 51st couple that, after staying with her, chose to move to Bastrop.

Think about that for a moment. In her twenty years as a B&B operator, with no true DMO in place, she welcomed thousands of visitors to spend the night. Over one hundred are now residents of Bastrop.

Imagine how that number will grow, now that she has a DMO to expand her sales funnel...because she clearly has it going on once she gets visitors through her door.

Very cool.
