John Adams Said This Would Happen

"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This...is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution."

While our nation teeters on the edge of a cultural divide that threatens our way of life, we will prevail, as my friend John Roach penned in a recent column.

But, Destination Marketing? I get that the Colorado case study is almost 25 years old (thus, it can't possibly be relevant). But, the Pennsylvania case study is going on NOW. Every single politician in every State has these cautionary statistics in their hands...and yet:

Florida seriously toyed with eliminating its Destination Marketing program before restoring it...but with draconian restrictions that will reduce its effectiveness.

Texas cut its Destination Marketing budget in half.

Delaware is on the verge of eliminating funding for its DMOs.

West Virginia has slashed its Destination Marketing budget by 67%.

And, every one of these moves was a result of partisan politics...not an attempt at good governance to benefit the citizens they ostensibly are sworn to serve.

As I said a couple years ago as a participant in the DMAI Great Debates, "they're coming for us."

They're already here.
