Troy Gentry

GentryIt was a spur of the moment joy ride prior to hitting the stage for a concert with his longtime musical collaborator that robbed us all of Troy Gentry. Investigators are now saying that the helicopter crash that killed Troy and his pilot was due to mechanical issues.

While the first Montgomery Gentry album came out back in in 1999, it was their 2002 release that caught the ear of those for whom Country wasn't their primary musical genre. "My Town" had it all from great hooks to a sense of nostalgia that sucked you in to their world. It was one of those songs that taught rockers that Country could be cool.

The duo's next album release was just around the corner at the time of his death...and the first single, released over this past weekend, is a song about turning the page to become a better person

On this Music Friday (delayed somewhat due to an unfortunate computer crash), however, it is "My Town" with which we'll remember Troy, his music and his infectious smile.
