Having been around the block a time or two, we typically can refer you to destinations that have struggled with your issue or have become best in class. And, like Kris Kringle in Miracle on 34th Street, if we can’t deliver for you, we’re going to make sure you find the best person or organization to assist you.

But let’s start with some basics. The Destination Marketing sector is filled with a sea of alphabets. CLICK HERE for our list of acronyms (also found in our book Destination Leadership).

If you’re not a Destination Marketing Professional, here are some organizations and their websites that you’ll want to start with to better understand the Destination Marketing world:.

US Travel Association

Destinations International

American Society for Association Executives (ASAE)

Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA)

Meeting Professionals International (MPI)

Sports Events & Tourism Association (Sports ETA)

Aside from the national organizations listed previously, there are several state CVB/DMO associations (too many to list here) and a few regional organizations that also provide valuable resources:

Destination Marketing Association-West (DMA-West)

Southeast Tourism Society

Research is an area that is crucial to Destination Marketing. Add to your list the Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA). In addition, there are several reputable research companies that service the DMO sector. During this time of COVID, many of them are sharing their data and research freely.
